Apparently this site gets about 1,000 hits a month (thank you, Google Analytics!) and yesterday got nearly 200 hits (WTF?).
Who's reading this thing? I know the five of you who follow in Google Friend Whatsit, but who're the rest of you?
Any changes you'd like to see? More information, less information, links to pictures?

Considering I started this for my own amusement, it's nice to see that other people like him, too.

In case you wondered how this blog got started, it's one person with a lot of search macros. At one time in my life, I was watching a lot of Canadian cinema and saw three movies in a row that featured Mr. Richings. Eventually, I bought julianrichings.com when I realized Hey, It's That Guy was probably never going to feature him, and that information about someone who'd been in that many movies, TV shows, stage shows, and commercials was shockingly hard to find. I discovered a few other fans, some of whom helped me put together a website. The website proved to be rather difficult to keep current, so it developed into this blog.

The all_spn Livejournal community collected the tweets of a number of people who saw Mr. Richings' appearance at the convention.
Apparently, he's not sure he's going to be on Supernatural again....because he's busy filming the new Superman movie. No role mentioned, but he's on Krypton the whole time.

Remember a few months ago, I had a link to a blog post about someone who got to design a "Death Machine" for a movie featuring Mr. Richings?
As it turns out, the movie is "Up In Cottage County" and is premiering at TIFF. It's described as "an absurd re-imagining of Kafka's In Der Strafkolonie." Pictures, and a synopsis, here on the TIFF site.

Furstenau Mysteries is - I think - a short film that's currently in post-production. It's got a Facebook fan page and a Twitter and a website that I can't get to load. Mr. Richings plays a man named Jameson and there's a still of him on the website, allegedly.

Hard Core Logo II

Considering that Hard Core Logo had such a huge cult following (okay, maybe just among people I knew, not the world in general), I'm surprised that Hard Core Logo II isn't getting much attention. Mr. Richings reprises his role as Bucky Haight and, from the information about the film I've seen, is much more of a main character than he was in the first film.

If you'd like to see Hard Core Logo II, it's going to be at TIFF. More information at the Globe and Mail site.

Toronto SummerWorks Loses Heritage Canada Funding

This isn't directly related to Mr. Richings, but since he was in a SummerWorks play, I suppose I can make the argument that it's tangentially related.

The Toronto SummerWorks Festival has suddenly lost funding. They just received notice today (June 28th) that they will not receive funding from Heritage Canada for their 2011 season, which begins August 4th. The Heritage Canada funding made up 20% of the SummerWorks budget, and there's not much time to fill the gap. You can read about the loss of funding here, but you definitely should go to the SummerWorks website and kick in a few bucks. This is the largest juried theater festival in Canada, and largely features new Canadian plays.

Polyvore is a site where people put together collages of outfits based on pictures from various sources. Today, Mr. Richings (as his character as Orr from The Last Casino) makes an appearance in someone's collection - "A Double Date with Julian Richings and Edward G. Robinson."
For the click-through-phobic, below the collage of pictures, the text says:

"Now, I know this seems totally batpoo, but follow me on this one: you're at a Bistro, you're with two extremely dapper individuals of mysterious heritage, one European and the other possibly interplanetary, and you are FRIGHTFULLY underdressed. What do you do? You put on your sunglasses and doodle on the nice linen napkins with crayon!"

There's a rumor floating around that Mr. Richings has been cast as the next Dr. Who. It's an unsubstantiated rumor, which was apparently started when someone created a YouTube video making the claim that Mr. Richings had been cast. The video is impressive, but it's fan-made.

The Misanthrope at Tarragon Theatre

According to Mr. Richings' agency website, he will be appearing as Alexander in Molière's The Misanthrope, an updated version of the story written by Martin Crimp, and directed by Richard Rose. The Tarragon Theatre's site about the production is here.

According to the website, previews start December 28th, the show opens on Wednesday, January 5th, 2011, and will run until February 6th. Tickets are available on the show's site.

While Mr. Richings isn't listed anywhere on the Tarragon site for the show, the fact that the play is appearing in his list of credits on his agent's website makes me fairly confident he's in this show.

I could, of course, be totally wrong. Someone can tell me if I am. In fact, if I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will be along to point out the error. This is the Internet, after all.

Mr. Richings is going to be appearing as Death on Supernatural again - Episode 6.11, Appointment in Samarra. It airs on December 10th. According to the variety of spoiler sites reporting, the plot of the episode is as follows:
(BTW, do you guys want me to cut/highlight for spoilers? Does anyone care? I don't follow Supernatural - or any other TV show, really, other than Sesame Street and Yo Gabba Gabba - so it's not an issue for me. If it's an issue for you, whoever you are, random reader, let me know.)

DEATH RETURNS FOR A MEETING WITH DEAN

Dean (Jensen Ackles) seeks out Death (guest star Julian Richings) to help get Sam’s (Jared Padalecki) soul back.
Death tells Dean he will help Sam if Dean will agree to act as Death for 24 hours.
Meanwhile, Sam decides he doesn’t want his soul back and asks Balthazar (guest star Sebastian Roché) for a protective spell to keep his soul out of his body.
Balthazar tells Sam he needs the blood of his father for the spell to work and since John Winchester is dead, Sam decides Bobby (Jim Beaver) is the next best thing.

Sorry to spam your RSS feeds or alerts, but there's a whole Julian Richings section on Netflix that lists everything he's in that they've got. Aside from tiny cameos. And television series. Okay, it lists some of the movies he's been in, including a few random hard-to-find films that I wouldn't have been able to see any other way. The Timekeeper is listed as "DVD availability date unknown," but I was still able to save it to my queue. If enough people were to do that, I imagine a copy of The Timekeeper would eventually be purchased by Netflix.
Go forth and add it to your queue!

Though I must warn you that if you order a bunch of movies in a row for the sole reason of seeing Mr. Richings, the Netflix algorithm gets very confused about your recommendations. I was recommended nothing but horror movies and indie Canadian cinema for a few weeks.

The Internet also provided me with a link to two pictures from a 2007 movie, presumably about werewolves, called Nature of the Beast. I have no idea if the film was ever released, but I dig the bow tie.

War of the Worlds on DVD

Mr. Richings was featured as evil alien scientist (and general all-around badass) Ardix in the second season of War of the Worlds, which ran from 1988 to 1990. If you haven't seen it, it's worth watching. At least the episodes with Mr. Richings in them. I might be a bit biased.
The series is finally being released on DVD. Amazon has the release date listed as October 26th, and there's ordering information here.

SyFy (which I will always think of as SciFi) is producing a pilot in Toronto called "Three Inches." The premise of the show is as follows:
In Three Inches, professional daydreamer and underachiever, Walter Spackman (Reid) is struck by lightning, and develops a unique “super” power — the ability to move any object using just his mind… but only a distance of three inches. He’s soon recruited by a covert team of superheroes each gifted with their own extraordinarily ordinary abilities. I don't know why this just showed up in my in-box, but there's a picture of Mr. Richings in the Summer 2009 ACTRA Toronto magazine, Performers. It's a PDF, and the picture is on page 30. The picture is apparently from the set of 7 of Diamonds, which isn't a feature I've seen mentioned anywhere. The movie is apparently the first 3D film to be shot in Canada, and is about a hobo who finds a set of lucky dice.

This article says shooting begins Feb 22, and that Mr. Richings will be reprising his role of Bucky Haight, but I'm skeptical.

Movies Unlimited says that the movie has been released and is available for order on it's website. I tried to order it, and was able to get it in my cart without any of the previous alerts that it was delayed. So.....maybe it's available?

The short film Safe, which used to be available free online, is now available on DVD from Amazon. Mr. Richings has a brief speaking role, but it's worth watching the whole thing.

The Facts in the Case of Mr. Hollow (which looks creepy as all get out, by the way) is being released on a DVD of collected short films by Rodrigo Gudiño. The collection consists of three short films and is titled Curious Stories, Crooked Symbols. Available via the Rue Morgue Cinema website.
